I think the extra shipping protection charge is an unnecessary added expense. Customers could add more products to their purchase if it weren't for the extra charge.

We appreciate your review. Shipping protection is a completely optional service that we offer in case something happens with your package after it leaves our warehouse. You're in no way required to purchase it.
We have no control over your packages while it's in possession of the carrier or once it's delivered to your address, so we're not responsible for any theft or damage after it leaves us. We offer this so that you can get a replacement if the carrier loses or damages your product or if it's stolen after delivery.
It's a small charge, about 2% of your order value.
